Here is the response I received from Midnight Software, Inc. regarding this:

"Sorry, but there is no way to create more hatch patterns.

Many people draw a small pattern, then make it into a group, and copy it
many times.

Not what you wanted to hear, I'm sure, but it's something.

Any ideas from others appreciated.
